APAC Calls for Polish Americans to Celebrate Polish Heritage Month by Building Support for the JOLT ACT

Today, the American Polish Advisory Council urged Polish Americans to celebrate Polish Heritage Month in October by reaching out to their representatives in Congress to support the JOLT Act, legislation that would pave the way for Poland’s inclusion in the US Visa Waiver Program.

Poland, one of the staunchest allies of the United States is not one of the 38 countries whose citizens can travel to the US as tourists without a visa. The American Polish Advisory Council has lobbied Congress and the US Senate for passing legislation to include Poland in the program.

In March of this year, bill H.R. 1401, also known as the Jolt Act, which would expand the Visa Waiver Program to include qualifying countries such as Poland was introduced in Congress and has gained bipartisan support of almost 100 legislators. Just this week, a version of the bill was introduced in the US Senate which already counts 13 cosponsors.

“Countless Polish American celebrations will be taking place across the country this month and they present an excellent opportunity to call attention to the work that needs to be done to build support for both bills,” said Gen. Edward Rowny, president of the American Polish Advisory Council.

Polish Americans are encouraged to contact their Representatives and Senators and urge them to sign on as sponsors of H.R. 1401 in the US House and S. 2091 in the US Senate to increase the chances of the bill’s passage.

“Only with a national, aggressive lobbying effort will we be able to secure the necessary support for the bill to end up on the President’s desk and be signed into law. We will not rest until that happens,” added General Rowny.

The American Polish Advisory Council is a Washington, DC based nonprofit organization whose mission is to involve Polish Americans in the political process and to increase the number, visibility and influence of Polish Americans in public service and public affairs.
